About

The word Sarma is both an abbreviation of my name, Sarmite and its meaning is frost. Rugs, on the other hand, provide a solution, escape from frost, warmth, comforting and cosiness, both in winter and in other seasons.

I divide all works into collections, of which each includes a thematic source of inspiration. For example, for the Steel Sky: Post Pandemic  collection, it is sky, and the pressing problem of air pollution, where I am searching for the solution and depicting it through my works.

My design inspiration also comes from a variety of sources for different collections.

Usually I start a project by sketching my inspiration. Then I make sculptures ( Monumental Moment collection) , photograph their sections in day and night light, and from these photos I make CAD rug designs using Photoshop and Illustrator.

My Unique Selling Point is to let my customer play around the design, not just ordering whole rug, but choosing which sections he/she would like to purchase.

For instance, in  Beyond Surreality/Stylized Fish collection, the 3X5ft (90X150cm) rug designs are divided into 1X1ft (30X30cm) sections, where you can choose how many and which sections you would like to pursue.

Alongside rugs, Sarma Rugs also manufactures and trades wall decors. Materials and techniques include cotton fabrics and mixed yarn (80% wool and 20% nylon); rag rug and tufting techniques.
